When Georgia wanted to secede from the union, it was called Georgia's Secession Convention. During Georgia's Secession convention, there were people that wanted to secede and there were people that wanted to stay. Although in most states, all of the votes were kept confidential, in Georgia they were not. Alexander Stephens, shown below, was not sure if Georgia should have
seceeded or not originally and that's why he supported the Compromise of 1850 and the Fugitive slave act. He then realized that slavery was something that couldn't be changed and so he ran for vice president of the confederacy.
